East Boston High School is a public high school located in the East Boston, Boston, Massachusetts. The school is part of the Boston Public Schools system.

Academics

The school is a professional partnership school with Harvard University Graduate School of Education's Teacher Education Program.[1]

Boston Public Schools (BPS) assigns students based on preferences of the applicants and priorities of students in various zones. Due to the geography of East Boston, all East Boston high school-aged residents are guaranteed seats at East Boston High School.[2]

The school offers various Advanced Placement courses, honors courses, and two languages, which include Spanish and Italian. The school also accepts students with disabilities under its Special Education department. Bilingual Education such as ESL classes are also offered. According to the December 2008 school report, the school is made up of 62.9% regular education students, 18.5% special education students, and 18.4% bilingual education students.

The school has an Army Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps, or simply known as JROTC, that students may take upon request. It also has its own sports like the Drill Team. Once every year they take the team down to Daytona Beach or Washington D.C. to compete with other school across the nation. They also have the Raiders Team which is mostly about hard physical training . They have the Rifle Team and get to compete against other schools in the district.

Student body

Most of the students come from East Boston; some commute from other areas of Boston. In the 2009-2010 BPS Report on Teaching & Learning, the school reported to have about 1350 students. Of the students 65% were Hispanic, 15.8% were non-Hispanic White, 16.5% were non-Hispanic Black, 2% were Asian, and 0.8% classified as Other. 18.9% of the students were in special education programs.[3]

Athetics

East Boston High School participates in several sports. They include boy's football, basketball, baseball, and soccer along with girl's basketball, soccer, softball, and volleyball. The school's hockey, indoor-track, outdoor track, and swimming teams are co-educational.
